While filming 112 weddings over the course of 20 years, videographer and documentary filmmaker Doug Block found he couldn’t shake one simple question: After the cake was cut and the gifts were opened, whatever became of these couples’ marriages?

That question inspired 112 Weddings, a documentary that explores how life and marriage have changed for 10 couples since Block filmed their weddings years earlier. Juxtaposing footage from the couples’ wedding days with candid present-day interviews, the film reveals which marriages thrived, stumbled, and, in two cases, ended.

Christina Hendricks plays the unlucky-in-love Joan on “Mad Men,” but in real life she’s been in love with her husband since the day they met.

Hendricks told British news outlet The Sun Wednesday that she was drawn to her now-husband, actor Geoffrey Arend, immediately after they were introduced by her “Mad Men” co-star, Vincent Kartheiser, in 2007.

“There was something very striking about him when I first saw him, and I knew I was very intrigued and attracted to him,” Hendricks said. “I was able to get his number on a pretext and then over the next few weeks and months we began seeing each other and at one point we just knew it was right between us.”

On Bravo’s new reality show “Newlyweds: The First Year,” premiering Monday May 6, you’ll be able to watch four newlywed couples navigate their first year of marriage. One of those couples is Tina Sugandh, an Indian pop star, and Tarz Ludwigsen, president and co-founder of web start-upPandoodle. The couple, who married in December 2011, recently opened up to HuffPost Weddings about their relationship and how being on a reality show has affected their marriage. Below, 10 things we learned about the couple.

1. Their first conversation was about steak

Tina: “It was a long conversation. I grew up vegetarian and I had just started eating steak so I was enamored of all sorts of different steaks at all places.”

2. They moved in together after their first date

Tina: “We were just best friends from day one, which was really crazy. It was so easy to move in on the first date because it was like we were the same person.”

While millions of couples spend hours trying to learn how to improve their marriages through books or therapy, one recent study found that sustaining a happy marriage may only take 21 minutes, a pencil and a piece of paper.

A Northwestern University study set to be published in “Psychological Science” later this year surveyed 120 married couples for two years about their relationship satisfaction, and asked them to describe their most significant recent arguments. During the second year, half of the couples were also asked to complete three seven-minute writing tasks — one task every four months — in which they wrote about the arguments they’d had in the preceding months from the perspective of a theoretical neutral third party who wanted the best for all involved. These couples were found to have greater relationship satisfaction than the couples who did not participate in the writing task.

Lead author Eli Finkel, a Northwestern psychology professor, talked with HuffPost Weddings about why this 21-minute writing task was so influential in sustaining marriage quality.
