Nick Carter never had to wonder what his family would think of his girlfriend, fitness expert and actress Lauren Kitt, after they began dating in 2009. That’s because it was Nick’s sister, Angel, and brother, Aaron, who intuitively knew the couple would enjoy each other’s company and persuaded them to meet. The two were introduced at a movie night at Nick’s house, where a sign from the heavens seemed to approve the match. “Three hours into conversing on my balcony overlooking the beach, we saw shooting star after shooting star,” Nick remembers. “We both looked at each other and it got quiet.”

While on tour in Australia, separated from his love for the longest time since they met, Nick realized he couldn’t live without her. After obtaining permission to propose from Lauren’s father, Nick set off on a mission to design the perfect engagement ring. He sent Lauren to look at jewelry for her birthday with his business manager. A diamond on one particular necklace captivated Lauren, so Nick had the stone removed and set into a ring. “I personally love it because it looks like a Star Wars battleship,” he explains.

While filming 112 weddings over the course of 20 years, videographer and documentary filmmaker Doug Block found he couldn’t shake one simple question: After the cake was cut and the gifts were opened, whatever became of these couples’ marriages?

That question inspired 112 Weddings, a documentary that explores how life and marriage have changed for 10 couples since Block filmed their weddings years earlier. Juxtaposing footage from the couples’ wedding days with candid present-day interviews, the film reveals which marriages thrived, stumbled, and, in two cases, ended.

Matt Goss wants to help you say “I do.”

Formerly the lead singer of British rock band Bros, Matt is currently headlining at Caesars Palace’s Gossy Room in Las Vegas (yes, the venue was named after him), and last month released his EP I Do as well as his latest single: a joyful, jazzy ode to marriage proposals also called “I Do.” We recently caught up with Matt to discuss the inspiration behind the song and his advice for putting on toe-tapping wedding entertainment.

What was the inspiration behind “I Do?”

I’m a hopeless romantic. I started thinking – what’s the quintessential song for a man or woman to propose to? And I wanted to write a song that was utterly inclusive of all demographics. I thought, there isn’t a song you can definitively propose to. I was engaged before and I remember my knee gave out. It’s a beautifully submissive place to be, looking up at your lady, asking “Will you marry me?” I wanted to write a song that was powerful, authentic, glamorous, and romantic. I had a couple days at the piano and then I thought, “I’ve got the song.”

Jenny Petrosino and Dane Lupe went to Bentley University in Massachusetts together, but the seeds of their relationship were actually planted in Australia. It was there that Dane, who was studying abroad, revealed to Jenny’s friend that Jenny was his “dream girl.” Jenny’s friend didn’t forget that sweet remark, and she took Jenny to a party at Dane’s house a few months later where they immediately hit it off. “He was a little nervous [at the party], although he will not admit that, so I went up to him to see if he wanted to have a drink with me,” Jenny remembers. “We were pretty inseparable after that.”

Lisa Harman and Chuck Wakefield’s bohemian North Carolina wedding was an event 30 years in the making. The two met in 1980 and dated for six months, and although the relationship didn’t work out, Lisa says she never forgot Chuck’s kindness and sweet, gentle nature. Their paths crossed again 30 years later when Chuck reached out to Lisa as a friend. “I was always in love with her and never forgot her after 30-plus years apart,” Chuck says. They began a long-distance friendship, which evolved into love over the course of one year. Chuck proposed by handing Lisa a Taco Bell salsa packet that read, “Marry Me” – and Lisa happily accepted.

Marc Gann and Joey Scaletta say that after they were introduced by a mutual friend, their relationship went nowhere – until they met again a few months later at a watering hole in Baltimore and bonded over Marc’s punk rock t-shirt. This time, the relationship stuck. The two carved out as much time together as they could while Marc completed his surgical residency, then after almost two years of dating, Marc found a job at a hospital in rural Kansas. They continued dating long-distance for the next nine months, seeing each other once every four weeks. But it eventually became clear that they were missing out on too much of each other’s lives, so Joey moved to Kansas in 2008.

Get To Know Dreamy New Singer Cody Karey

If your iPod is peppered with songs by Josh Groban, Andrea Bocelli, and Jackie Evancho, you’ll find lots to love about Canadian tenor Cody Karey’s self-titled debut. The 23-year-old’s collection of soaring ballads doesn’t exactly break new ground, but Karey’s powerful voice and heart-melting lyrics will more than satisfy fans of the aforementioned masters of operatic pop (in fact, all have worked with famed producer David Foster).

Those searching for a wedding first-dance song will find plenty to choose from here, as virtually every track sounds tailor-made to accompany a waltz between newlyweds. Passion radiates from the achingly beautiful “You Are the Song,” while the guitar in “If Ever I Fall” is an unexpectedly pleasant accompaniment to Karey’s classically-trained voice. Even non Italian-speaking couples will appreciate “Tu Sei,” which nicely highlights Karey’s operatic range. This newcomer proves himself to be a welcome addition to the Grobans, Bocellis, and Evanchos of the world.

When Meredith Dulaney and Brian Escobedo met in November 2010 at a country music concert in New York City, you might say it was fate that brought them together. That’s because although Meredith, a Mississippi native, was a country music fan, lifelong New Yorker Brian was not. But when Brian’s coworker offered him a ticket to the concert, he thought, “Why not?” The two ended up hitting it off, and at the end of the concert Brian asked Meredith for her phone number. He called the next day to ask her out, and the rest is history. “New York boy meets Mississippi Delta girl at a country music concert in NYC…who would have guessed!” Meredith marvels.

When Jacqueline Salcedo walked into Expo Design Center for her first day of work, Marcus Fernandez spotted her and was instantly smitten. When he realized that she wasn’t a customer, but rather his new colleague, he worked to gain Jacqueline’s friendship, and from there, a relationship grew. “We became best friends and have been inseparable ever since,” Jacqueline says. Fourteen years later, Marcus took Jacqueline and their golden retriever, Lady, to Grand Park in downtown Los Angeles for a romantic picnic. There, he surprised her with two gifts: a cute onesie Jacqueline had been eyeing for their future baby, and a new collar for Lady that featured a tag engraved with the words, “Marry Marcus.”
