When Jacqueline Salcedo walked into Expo Design Center for her first day of work, Marcus Fernandez spotted her and was instantly smitten. When he realized that she wasn’t a customer, but rather his new colleague, he worked to gain Jacqueline’s friendship, and from there, a relationship grew. “We became best friends and have been inseparable ever since,” Jacqueline says. Fourteen years later, Marcus took Jacqueline and their golden retriever, Lady, to Grand Park in downtown Los Angeles for a romantic picnic. There, he surprised her with two gifts: a cute onesie Jacqueline had been eyeing for their future baby, and a new collar for Lady that featured a tag engraved with the words, “Marry Marcus.”

After arriving at her first boot camp exercise class, Malu Tungol took one look at Shannon Ashmon and thought, “I really hope he’s not the instructor.”

“He was too cute,” the bride, a behavioral scientist, reveals. “The last thing I wanted was for a first impression to include me embarrassing myself by struggling through his workout in the blazing Atlanta heat.” But Shannon was the instructor – and he noticed Malu immediately. He began chatting with Malu after class and calling her to ask how she was adjusting to the program. Very soon, the two were dating. “We tried to keep our burgeoning romance under wraps from the rest of the boot camp class,” Malu says. “We didn’t really fool anyone, though.”

Michelle Berta and Louis Matthews had the same idea on their first day of law school at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville: They both went to the pool in their apartment complex with their books in hand, intending to study. Instead, the two neighbors (as it turned out, they lived just three doors apart) struck up a conversation and ended up spending the afternoon getting to know each other. Their first official date was supposed to be a short tapas dinner, but it ended up lasting four hours. “On our first date, I knew Michelle was the love of my life!” Louis beams.

Louis was set on receiving his future father-in-law’s blessing before proposing, so he traveled from Virginia to Michigan to ask for Michelle’s hand. After gaining permission, Louis took Michelle to a romantic dinner at their favorite restaurant and out for an evening of dancing, then finally to the historic Rotunda at the University of Virginia campus, where he popped the question.

As The Reverend D, SanSevero specializes in officiating truly unique, offbeat weddings — think gothic, Halloween nuptials or ceremonies that feature the “Imperial March” from “Star Wars” as the processional song. And if this requires her to dress up like Elvira or quote raunchy lines from “Showgirls” during the service? No problem!

HuffPost Weddings talked with The Reverend D about the craziest weddings she’s performed and why it’s so important to offer couples a quirky, personal ceremony.

Prohibition Bakery might be the only cupcake shop where you’re required to show I.D. before enjoying a sweet treat.

That’s because all the cupcakes are flavored like your favorite cocktails, and yes — there’s real alcohol in the frosting and filling. With flavors like Old Fashioned, White Russian and Margarita, you’d be forgiven for thinking you’ve stumbled into your local bar instead of this cute New York City bakeshop. And the bakery caters weddings, so if traditional white wedding cake isn’t your thing, you can serve your guests your favorite drink as a cupcake instead.

HuffPost Weddings spoke with Leslie Feinberg and Brooke Siem, the masterminds behind Prohibition Bakery, about how they developed their boozy flavors and if it’s possible to actually get drunk off these cupcakes.

For Topher Rhys, producing the first Los Angeles revival of the rock musical bare since its premiere in 2000 at LA.’s Hudson Theatre has been a project nine years in the making.

He first heard a cast recording of the musical, which is set in a Catholic high school and explores the romance between roommates Jason and Peter, in 2004 when he was 16 years old. The story’s dark examination of religion intrigued him, and he has been “circling it” ever since.

“It’s interesting how this show has stuck with me for so long, to the point where we’re opening tonight,” Rhys says, sitting in the Hayworth Theatre just three hours before opening night on Friday. “And I succeeded in our goal of bringing the show back to LA.”

Christina Hendricks plays the unlucky-in-love Joan on “Mad Men,” but in real life she’s been in love with her husband since the day they met.

Hendricks told British news outlet The Sun Wednesday that she was drawn to her now-husband, actor Geoffrey Arend, immediately after they were introduced by her “Mad Men” co-star, Vincent Kartheiser, in 2007.

“There was something very striking about him when I first saw him, and I knew I was very intrigued and attracted to him,” Hendricks said. “I was able to get his number on a pretext and then over the next few weeks and months we began seeing each other and at one point we just knew it was right between us.”
